Appeal for information following serious collision on the M6 near Sandbach

Officers from Cheshire police are appealing for witnesses and video footage following a serious collision on the M6 near Sandbach.

At 7.06pm on Friday 19 May officers responded reports to a two vehicle-collision on the northbound carriageway near to Junction 17, near Sandbach.

Officers attended the scene and on arrival they found the collision involved a black Volkswagen Golf and a blue Renault Megane.

The incident resulted in Renault colliding with the central reservation of the carriageway.

The driver, a 70-year-old woman from Port Sunlight, Merseyside, and the passenger, 63-year-old woman from Stafford, sustained serious, but not life-threatening, injuries and were taken to Leighton hospital for treatment.

The 70-year-old woman currently remains in hospital following a vertebrae fracture.

The driver of the Volkswagen, a 38-year-old man from Manchester, sustained no injuries.

Enquiries in relation to the collision are ongoing and police are appealing to trace anyone who may have witnessed the collision or may have dashcam footage of the incident.

Police Constable Pete Kotlar of Cheshire Roads and Crime Unit, said:

“This was a serious collision which has resulted in a 70-year-old woman and 63 year old woman sustaining serious injuries. We are committed to doing all we can to establish exactly what took place.

“As part of our investigation we are keen to hear from anyone who was travelling on the M6, near to junction 17, at the time of the incident and believes they may have witnessed the collision.

“The same goes for anyone with any dashcam footage of the incident.

“I urge anyone with any information – no matter how small – to get in touch.”
