A person is captured on CCTV cycling along Burtonwood Road in the direction of Burtonwood village as the collision took place on the M62 underneath them.
They appear to be wearing a dark coat and possibly a cap, with the hood up on the coat.
The collision involving two lorries and a car on the westbound carriageway between junction 8 and junction 7 occurred at approximately 5.31am.
Sadly, Matt Greenhalgh, 28, and Jamie Fernandes, 24, who were passengers in the taxi, died at the scene. Their families are continuing to be supported by specialist officers.
The driver of the car was taken to hospital with serious injuries where he remains.
DS Russ Sime said:
“This cyclist may have witnessed the collision as they cycled across the bridge over the M62, so we’re urging them to get in touch with us as we continue with our enquiries.”
The driver of one of the two lorries, a 61-year-old man, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He has since been bailed pending further enquiries.
