Following footage circulating online of an altercation between supporters in a recent fixture between Warrington Town FC and Southport FC officers have made an arrest.
As part of our investigation into the incident which occurred on 5 March we arrested a 45-year-old man from Warrington on suspicion of affray. He has since been bailed and the investigation is still ongoing to identify those involved in the incident.
PC Joshua Meakin said:
“The actions of some involved in this incident is unacceptable. This type of thuggish behaviour will not be tolerated – people go to football matches to watch football. Fighting and causing trouble will result in police action being taken. We are fully committed to ensuring that people can attend matches and public events safely.
“I am pleased that an arrest has been made but we are still working to identify other people who took part in the violence that day. I urge anyone with any information to contact police."
