UPDATE, released 24/5/24:
Following further enquiries, a second person, a 19-year-old man, has been arrested on suspicion of rape. He has since been released on conditional bail.
The 37-year-old man who was arrested previously has been eliminated from the investigation and released with no further action against him.
The investigation is currently ongoing and anyone with any further information should contact Cheshire Police via the website or 101, quoting IML-1822074.

ORIGINAL APPEAL, released 14/5/24:
Detectives are currently investigating a serious sexual assault in Knutsford.
At 9.08pm on Sunday 12 May police were informed that a 17-year-old girl had been raped during a night out in Knutsford, sometime between 11pm on the evening of Saturday 11 May and 5am on Sunday 12 May.
The girl was in and around Knutsford town centre and the Mobberley Road area when the incident occurred.
The victim is being supported by officers and enquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances.
DI Rob Lees said:
“As part of our investigation we have arrested a 37-year-old man. He remains in custody while enquiries continue.
“I’d urge anyone who was in the areas of the town centre and Mobberley Road between the hours of 11pm on Saturday 11 May and 5am on Sunday 12 May to contact us with any information that may help us with our investigation.
“We understand this may cause some concern in the community and have increased in patrols in the area to provide reassurance.”
