At around 12.58pm on Tuesday 25 February, officers in Runcorn were notified by ambulance crews of a collision on Hollybank Road.
Attending the scene, officers found that the collision involved a silver Toyota Yaris and a pedestrian.
The pedestrian, a 58-year-old man from Wirral, sustained potentially life-threatening injuries and is currently being treated in hospital.
The driver of the Toyota, a woman, was arrested in connection to the incident and has since been released under investigation.
Enquiries in relation to the collision are ongoing and officers are keen to hear from anyone with information which may aid their investigation.
Inspector Steve Griffiths, of the Serious Collision Investigation's Unit, said:
“This was a serious collision which has left a man with potentially life-threatening injuries, and we’re committed to doing all we can to establish what took place.
“As part of our investigation, we are keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who may have dashcam or CCTV footage of it."
