Detectives investigating a serious assault in Ellesmere Port on Christmas Eve have arrested a local man.
The incident occurred on Chester Road in Little Sutton, near to the Smithy Lane junction, at 8.20pm on Tuesday 24 December.
A 39-year-old man from Ellesmere Port sustained a serious head injury as a result of the incident.
He remains in a critical condition in hospital.
A man from Ellesmere Port has been arrested on suspicion of Section 18 assault.
He has since been released under investigation.
Enquiries into the incident are still ongoing and anyone with information or footage that may help detectives with their investigation should call Cheshire Constabulary on 101, quoting IML 596796.
