A man who died in Macclesfield has been identified as 62-year-old Paul Cooke.
Mr Cooke died at Macclesfield Hospital following an assault at an address on Brocklehurst Way shortly before 9pm on Friday 20 December.
Detectives continue to establish the circumstances surrounding Mr Cooke’s death and a murder investigation has been launched.
On Saturday 21 December a 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and has since been detained under the Mental Health Act.
Detective Inspector Kate Tomlinson, of Cheshire Police’s Major Crime Directorate, said: “Our investigation into Mr Cooke’s death remains ongoing.
“I want to reassure the community that while we continue to establish what has happened, I believe it to be an isolated incident.
“We are following various lines of enquiry and are appealing for anyone who may have any information that could help the investigation or could help us identify Mr Cooke’s next of kin to please get in touch.”
