999 DAY PHOTO AT ch.jpg

The Constabulary has joined forces with Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service to celebrate Emergency Services Day, which is also known as 999 Day.

The special day, which celebrates all of the emergency services' hard work and dedication, is marked with a two-minute silence on the ninth hour of the ninth day of the ninth month.

All emergency services across the UK mark the day, along with HM The Queen, HRH The Prince of Wales, HRH The Duke of Cambridge, the Prime Minister and the First Ministers of Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

An incredible two million people work and volunteer across our NHS and emergency services, including a quarter of a million first responders.

This includes the thousands of staff and officers who work for Cheshire Constabulary and Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, protecting and keeping the public of Cheshire safe.

Chief Constable Mark Roberts said: "We are delighted to be marking the national Emergency Services Day here in Cheshire.

"We see every day the vital role all our emergency services play, and this has been highlighted even more since the start of the pandemic.

"I would like to thank all of our officers and staff for the fantastic work they do in keeping our communities safe, and I'd also like to extend those thanks to our partners for their efforts in protecting the public of Cheshire."

Chief Fire Officer Mark Cashin said: "It is great to have a dedicated day during which we can mark the hard work done by our fantastic emergency services.

"During the past 18 months, the importance of all of our services has been amplified, and we have seen both in Cheshire and across the country the vital role we play in protecting communities.

"Our firefighters and staff have been fantastic throughout this time, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank them for all their hard work."

Emergency Services Day in Cheshire

CC Roberts, CFO Cashin and Assistant Chief Fire Officer Paul Binyon raised an Emergency Services Day flag at our headquarters in Winsford at 9am today (Thursday 9 September).

The flag will fly high at Clemonds Hey for the remainder of day.

A flag was also raised at Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service Sadler Road Training Centre by training officers. People gathered outside to remember those who have served the public over many years.

Superintendent Gareth Wrigley and Deputy Chief Fire Officer Alex Waller attended an event organised by Cheshire West and Chester Council, which thanked all the emergency services for their hard work over the incredibly difficult past 12 months and beyond.

More information about the day is on the Emergency Services Day website.
