Residents urged to be vigilant to deter burglaries in Warrington

Officers in Warrington are urging residents to stay vigilant and review their home security measures.

During this time of year, there tends to be an increase in burglaries but a few simple steps may help prevent residents from being targeted.

Sergeant Mark Spaven said: “During this time of year, we do see several burglaries and we are doing all we can to crackdown on those intent on targeting our communities and bring them to justice.

“This is why you will see stepped up patrols in your community and I would urge anyone who may have concerns to speak to an officer.

“But while we do our part, I would urge residents to also do theirs by ensuring that their homes are secure – from checking that all windows and doors are locked to looking out for neighbours.”

There are many ways in which you can best keep your home safe such as:

  • Make sure that all windows are closed and locked, even when you are at home or in the garden.
  • Use the security measures on modern windows, which allow them to let some air in but still be locked.
  • All external doors should be always secured, even when you are at home.
  • Keep all valuables out of sight and ensure that large amounts of cash are never kept in the home.
  • Always use a chain if you are unsure of the identity of visitors to your home when answering the door – or similar
  • It’s also a good idea to keep an eye on your neighbourhood and report any suspicious activity to police.

Sgt Spaven added: “I would urge anyone who sees something that doesn’t look quite right in their community to contact us and we will do the rest.

“Any information, no matter how small, will assist us in catching those responsible and bringing them to justice.”

Anyone with information about suspicious activity in their area is urged to contact police through the Cheshire Police website or call 101.
