A 21-year-old man from Warrington has been jailed for 12 months for assaulting a pensioner.
Benjamin Jones from Trafford Avenue, Bewsey and Whitecross appeared at Chester Magistrates on Monday 13 June to admit the charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm following an investigation into an incident in Warrington. He was then sentenced to a year in prison.
The 75-year-old victim was assaulted while walking along Church Street in Warrington and again as he walked across Sainsburys car park at approximately 10.35pm on Friday 10 June.
At one point he was on the floor when Jones kicked him to the head leaving him on the floor bleeding from his injuries.
Witnesses came to his aid, and he was treated in hospital.
PC Ryan Stant said:
“Jones has never told us the reason behind his violent behaviour, but it was inexcusable and shocking no matter what. To attack an elderly man going about his business, leaving him with distressing facial injuries is just incomprehensible.
“Thankfully, Jones is now behind bars for his vicious act of violence against an innocent man.”
