At around 9pm on Wednesday 20 November officers were called to reports of a firearms discharge in the Dragons Lane area of Moston.
On arrival a 38-year-old man was discovered with injuries to his chest and eye.
He was subsequently taken to hospital for treatment. His injuries are thought to be life changing.
Officers remained on scene throughout the evening and are conducting further enquiries today.
A visible policing presence will remain in the area.
Superintendent Claire Jesson, Eastern Area Policing Commander said:
“I understand this report will cause residents some concern, please be assured that my officers will be in the area providing a high visibility presence.
