A woman from Alsager who was arrested in relation to hate related communications has now been charged.
Julie Sweeney was arrested on Monday 5 August after police received a complaint in relation to the hateful tone of a message which had been posted on a community group in the Kidsgrove area.
The 53-year-old of Crewe Road in Alsager has since been charged with sending communications threatening death or serious harm (S181 Online Safety Act 2023).
She has been remanded in custody and is set to appear at Warrington Magistrates' Court on Wednesday 7 August.
Chief Superintendent Jonathan Betts said:
“As this case demonstrates, we treat all reports of hate crime seriously and will ensure that swift and robust action is taken against all those found responsible.”
