As a constable with Cheshire Constabulary you’ll be making a difference to the lives of people across all our communities, building relationships and tackling crime. It isn’t easy, but there’s nothing quite like it for job satisfaction.
Through your work you'll show local people that we’re prepared to deal with the issues that matter most to them, no matter how sensitive. If you’ve got what it takes, we're proud of the rewards we can offer.
You can earn whilst you learn
You will be a paid police officer from day one of your training, gaining on-the-job experience and studying your degree. Earn while you learn.
Forget the idea that apprentices are paid less than their colleagues, we offer a competitive starting salary of £26,682. This is the same as the other entry routes, so you won’t earn less because you are an apprentice.
If you’re wondering what you might earn in other sectors the national average for degree apprenticeships is £18,450
High quality training paid for by us
Cheshire Constabulary will pay your tuition fees. You’ll be earning a salary too so no need for student loans.
No tuition fees + no student loans = no debt!
Time off
Annual leave entitlement starts at 22 days a year, rising to 30 days depending on your length of service. This is on top of public holidays in lieu.
Officers also qualify for other kinds of leave including maternity, paternity, adoption, special leave (with or without pay) and parental leave.
The security of a police pension
As a new constable you will be automatically enrolled to become a member of the police pension scheme. This isn't compulsory so you can opt out if you want to.
Your kind of working hours
Police officers work a 40-hour week. Normal shift patterns include early, late and night shifts, bank holidays and weekends.
If you’re a parent or a carer, or both, we can help you fit a rewarding career into your life with flexible shifts and part-time options after your initial three year probationary period.
Yet more lifestyle benefits
Our officers have access to all these:
All our constables conducting the Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship route will first complete a three-year probationary period as a student officer. This allows them to experience the real-world challenges of community policing, learning alongside experienced colleagues. After that, they can qualify as a full police constable.
A career with endless prospects
You may choose to continue in community policing, perhaps rising up the ranks. Or, you might like to move on into training for one of our specialist roles. Go wherever your skills and interests take you.
