What made you decide to join the Special Constabulary?
I’ve always wanted be a police officer since I was young and I wanted to make a difference in my community. Becoming a Special was a way for me to be involved. Being a black a woman in Cheshire Constabulary is something I’m very proud of and I sincerely want to see more diversity in the force. I have realised that if you want change you have to take the initiative first.
How do you find the balance between working as a special constable in line with your current employment?
Knowing that I have set hours within the month, it makes it easier to plan with my employer.
Do you feel supported by the Constabulary since joining as a special constable?
Yes, I feel well supported and cared for from the Force and my teams.
What tasks would you undertake during a shift as a special constable?
As a team worker I respond to all types of calls assigned to me and my colleagues. I enjoy the variety of not knowing what is next.
What do you enjoy most about working within the Special Constabulary?
I enjoy the team work and knowing that I can make a positive difference to my community.
What do you find most rewarding from your role as a special constable?
I enjoy learning from my Inspectors, Sergeants and colleagues to gain the experience for a full time position.
Would someone need prior experience in another field in order to be part of the Special Constabulary?
You need to be level headed and cool and confident under pressure.
You also need to have a desire to learn and learn fast.
What would you say to someone considering joining the Special Constabulary?
Just do it, don’t prevaricate. It's can be scary but also so brilliant and exciting.
