On 18th January 2023, the Home Office announced that all police forces must check their workforce against national databases. In response to this a decision was taken by the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) that all police officers, staff and volunteers in England and Wales will be checked against the Police National Database (PND) to identify any intelligence or allegations that need further investigation.
There is an intention to publish a data set relating to this topic in January 2024. Freedom of Information requests submitted prior to this time are therefore likely to fall under the exemption provided within the Freedom of Information legislation found at Section 22.
Full details regarding the data that will be published are available on the NPCC Intention to Publish Strategy.
