It is alleged that on 19th February 2026, Detective Inspector Shelton became involved in an investigation being undertaken where there was a personal conflict of interest. It is alleged they have abused their position, accessing Police systems relating to this investigation and attempted to influence the investigation and outcome. They withheld their personal connection to the family of the suspect and how they came to be involved in the investigation from police colleagues.
In behaving in this manner, they have demonstrated a lack of honesty and integrity and abused their position. They have acted in contrary to Force Orders and Instructions under the Force Information Security Procedure (FISP) & Force IT Acceptable Use policy. Due to not having a genuine policing purpose, they have inappropriately disclosed information. Their behaviour discredits the police service and had the potential to undermine public confidence.
It is alleged they have breached the Standards of Professional Behaviour in respect of Honesty & Integrity, Authority, Orders & Instructions, Confidentiality and Discreditable Conduct.
In accordance with The Police Conduct Regulations 2020, the hearing will be held in public.
