During the course of a Gross Misconduct Investigation Constable Collins was suspended from duty from December 2024. In January 2025, the officer was granted a business interest in respect of property maintenance. This was granted with conditions.
Constable Collins failed to comply with these conditions. The officer failed to keep adequate records of work undertaken, exceeded the permitted working hours, and engaged in activity outside the declared scope of the business interest. This included involvement in a business which was publicly advertised and linked to the officer via his personal details.
When requested to do so, Constable Collins submitted inaccurate and misleading information to Professional Standards. An initial submission of the work he had completed provided insufficient detail to verify compliance with the business interest conditions, including omitting identifiable information about customers.
When given the opportunity to rectify this he provided a further record that understated the hours worked and evidenced inconsistencies between the officer’s account and the extent of business interest, displaying a lack of honesty and integrity.
The officer’s behaviour breached the standards of professional behaviour relating to Honesty and Integrity, Orders and Instructions and Discreditable Conduct.
The hearing found that Constable Collins had a case to answer for Gross Misconduct and he was dismissed without notice.
