Appeal to trace motorist following fatal collision in Widnes

Officers investigating a fatal collision are appealing to help trace a motorist who is believed to have witnessed the incident.

At around 4pm on Friday 19 April, police were called to reports of a collision on Deacon Road, Widnes.

Officers attended the scene and found that a cyclist had fallen from an electric bike. The cyclist, a 60-year-old man from Widnes, was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to Aintree Hospital.

His injuries were initially not believed to be life threatening, but sadly his condition deteriorated, and he passed away on Wednesday 22 May.

Now, as part of the ongoing enquiries officers are appealing to help trace the driver of a grey Audi Q2 which stopped at the scene of the collision.

Sergeant Russ Sime, of the Serious and Complex Collision Investigation Unit, said:

“As part of our ongoing investigation we’re keen to speak to a woman who was driving a grey Audi Q2 and stopped at the scene following the collision but left a short time later after their child became upset.

“I would like to reassure the woman that she had not done anything wrong, we just need to speak to her to help establish exactly what took place.

“I would urge the woman, or anyone who thinks they know who she is, to call us on 101 quoting IML 1804116. the same goes for anyone else in relation to the collision.”
