A 26-year-old man has been jailed for three years and four months for causing serious injury by dangerous driving in Widnes.
Anthony Campbell, 26, from Abbey Close in Widnes appeared at Liverpool Crown Court on Tuesday 7 January to be sentenced after pleading guilty to three counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, no insurance and failing to stop after a collision.
He was also disqualified from driving for four years and four months and will have to pass an extended driving test.
On 11 October 2024 at around 11.45pm a black Mercedes AMG A45 driven by Campbell was in collision with a grey Audi A1 on Kingsway in Widnes. The occupants of the Mercedes got out of the vehicle and fled the scene.
The occupants of the Audi were taken to hospital with serious injuries.
At 1.30am on 12 October Campbell called police to say he was the driver of the Mercedes and would hand himself in on the Monday.
Then subsequently made a couple of calls but had yet to hand himself in.
Officers made enquiries to establish his location and tracked him down to a hotel in Liverpool. They attended and arrested him while he admitted that he was the driver and that he was already banned from driving.
Sgt Russ Sime said:
“The fact that he was already disqualified from driving when he crashed into the other car and left the scene leaving two women and a man badly injured shows his disregard for others and the law. I hope that he now understands impact of his actions.”
