Appeal for information following post box thefts

Officers investigating the theft of several post boxes across the Malpas area are appealing for information and witnesses.

On Monday 18 August, postal workers in the Chorlton Lane area of Malpas noticed that two GR post boxes had been stolen.

Following this, enquiries conducted by officers from the Rural Crime Team resulted in the arrest of a 25-year-old woman and a 32-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of theft and have since been released on bail.

On Friday 10 October, officers received another report that a post box had been stolen from the Meadow Lane area of Duckington. It was believed to have been stolen at around 1am that morning.

As part of their enquiries into these incidents, officers are appealing to anyone who has any information in relation to the incidents, has any CCTV or dash camera footage to please get in touch.

Police Constable Jono Lightfoot, of the Rural Crime Unit, aid:

“These crimes really affect the residents in these rural communities as some of these post boxes have stood in these areas for well over a century, with some being used as far back as the first World War to send and receive letters to and from the frontlines.

“I would like to ask anyone who has any information relating to the theft of these post boxes to please get in touch.

“The same goes for anyone who may have access to any relevant CCTV or dashcam footage that may aid us in our enquiries.”
