Man charged in relation to death of Ellesmere Port woman

Detectives investigating the death of Jennifer Smith in Ellesmere Port have charged a man with her manslaughter.
On Thursday 1 June 2023, 38-year-old Jennifer was sadly found deceased at an address in Birch Grove, Ellesmere Port.
Following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service we have today, Thursday 4 December 2025, charged Peter Scargill with Manslaughter, Stalking involving serious alarm and distress and blackmail.
The 48-year-old of Cherry Road, Chester is set to appear at Warrington Magistrates’ Court later today, Thursday 4 December 2025.
Cheshire Constabulary and the Crown Prosecution Service remind all concerned that criminal proceedings against Mr Scargill are now active and that he has a right to a fair trial.
