Five men arrested following incident in Warrington

Five men have been arrested following reports of men selling stolen goods in Warrington.

At 4.40pm on Tuesday 9 September, officers in Warrington received reports from local authority CCTV operators of a group of men selling goods from a vehicle in the town centre, which were suspected to be stolen items.

Police stopped the vehicle in Egypt Street to make enquiries and while the driver was detained, the other three occupants of the vehicle fled the scene. Thanks to CCTV monitoring, officers were able to keep track of the suspects, and another man was swiftly arrested.

The last two occupants of the vehicle were traced through the town centre before a second vehicle picked them up and attempted to leave the vicinity. However, it was intercepted by officers on Slutchers Lane and the occupants and the driver were subsequently arrested.

A quantity of electronics, perfumes and vouchers were seized from the original vehicle as well as a quantity of cash.

Four men from Runcorn, aged 22, 24, 24 and 26, were arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods. One man from Warrington, aged 43, was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

“Thanks to rapid coordination and real-time CCTV monitoring, officers were able to arrest the suspects quickly and efficiently and have seized a number of items which are believed to be stolen goods.

“This incident is a strong example of seamless teamwork across departments and shows a fantastic response to tackle those who try to commit crime in Cheshire.”
