A man has been bailed as investigations into an unexplained death in Winwick continue.
At around 1.40pm on Wednesday 4 November, officers in Warrington were called to the concerns for the safety of a woman at an address in the Myddleton Lane area of Winwick.
Officers and colleagues from the North West Ambulance Service attended and sadly found the body of a 79-year-old woman, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
As part of enquires, a 52-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of murder at the scene. He has since been released on conditional bail.
As the investigations continue, officers have now been informed by Home Office Post Mortem pathologists that the 79-year-old’s cause of death has been withheld pending further enquires.
Detective Chief Inspector David Hutcheon, of the Major Investigation Team, said:
“As our investigation continues, a 52-year-old man who was arrested earlier in the week has now been released on bail. Enquiries into fully establishing the circumstances of what happened here remain ongoing and we remain open minded.
“Home Office Post Mortem colleagues have now informed us that the cause of death of the 79-year-old woman is currently being withheld pending further enquiries.
“This investigation remains ongoing and we would like to remind the public to think of the family at the centre of this investigation before choosing to engage in any form of speculation, particularly on social media.
“Our thoughts remains with the family of the deceased in what will be a challenging time for them.”
