Plucky PD sniffs out flushed drug packages

On Saturday 25 April, officers carrying out arrest attempts for a man from Warrington attended an address in the Leigh area of Wigan, Greater Manchester.

The man refused to allow officers into the property, however whilst they were outside, they heard repeated toilet flushing coming from an upstairs bathroom, leading them to suspect that items were being disposed of.

Officers subsequently gained entry to the address and detained a 27‑year‑old man.

Police Constable Allinson and her Police Dog, Honey, were also deployed to carry out a search of the property.

During the search, PD Honey located a quantity of drugs inside a drawer, along with snap bags.

In the bathroom, Honey then began indicating to her handler behind a storage unit.

PC Allinson moved the unit and discovered a plastic carrier bag containing a set of scales and several large, wet bags containing traces of drugs.

As a result of the discovery, the 27‑year‑old was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class B drugs and possession of Class B drugs. He was also arrested on suspicion of harassment.

He has since been released on conditional bail.

Police Constable Allinson said:

“People may attempt to hide drugs in numerous places, believing they can keep them concealed from our officers, but it is ultimately a fruitless endeavour.

“Those involved in the supply of drugs often underestimate the noses of our police dogs and their determination to locate illegal substances of all kinds. As Honey has demonstrated, our PDs are capable of detecting even the slightest traces of drugs, regardless of attempts to dispose of them.”
