Man jailed for controlling and coercive behaviour

A man who tried to control and manipulate a woman has been jailed for more than two years.

Daniel Johnson, of Chester Road, Warrington, was sentenced to 27 months at Chester Crown Court on Tuesday 9 June 2026.

The 53-year-old had pleaded guilty to controlling and coercive behaviour and perverting the course of justice.

Concerns were raised to police about Johnson’s behaviour towards the victim and the victim was subsequently spoken to.

She disclosed that Johnson was verbally abusive towards her. He had made unwanted sexual advances towards her and had taken photographs of the victim in a state of undress without her consent.

He isolated her from her family and friends, and the victim reported he would also take money from her, so she was therefore dependent upon him.

Johnson persistently contacted her, making her fear repercussions if she didn’t respond, and even monitored her movements by following her in his car and attending her address uninvited.

Johnson then also told the victim he would harm himself if she did not drop the charges against him. He even tried to pervert the course of justice by parking outside her house and sending her letters in an effort to get her to take back her statement to police.

Despite this, Johnson was charged and admitted the offences in court. He must also comply with the terms of a restraining order to protect the victim.
